Detailed information available about upcoming C-A millage election

FLINT TWP. — With an important millage election about a month away, Carman-Ainsworth officials are ramping up efforts to let voters know what is at stake.

Detailed information about millage request voters will be asked to approve in the May 7 election have been posted on the district's website.

In the May 7 general election, Carman- Ainsworth will be asking voters for ten-year renewals of an 18 mill non-homestead operating millage and also a 0.5 mills sinking fund millage. Both millages expire in June 2013 and were previously approved for the taxable years of 2004-2013.

Additionally, the district will ask voters to approve an additional 0.5 millage for the sinking fund for a total 1.0 millage.

Terms of the proposed millage renewals and increase will be from calendar years 2014 through 2023.

Sinking funds help the district with various building repairs and improvements such as roof repairs, paving and equipment.

The information fact sheets contain detailed information about how sinking fund millage money was spent in the past five years and also proposals for spending future fund.

Proposed future projects for sinking fund money, if approved, would include installation of intercoms in all education buildings next year at an estimated cost of $12,600; installation of WI-Fi connectivity to various elementaries next year for an estimated $100,000 cost; constructing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) focused rooms in 2015 for $1 million at the middle school; replacing the roof at Dye Elementary in 2016 for $150,000 and repairing its parking lot for $100,000; replacing second story deteriorated roofing at the high school in 2015 for $300,000; replacing the middle school roof in 2017 for $150,000 and various other projects including carpet replacement, security enhancements and roof replacement at other buildings.

The communication also details how past sinking fund millage money was spent dating back to 2008 Those projects included $12,800 for installation of an aquatics scoreboard at the high school in 2012; $6,980 to install a soccer field sign at the high school in 2011 and $2,475 to install a soccer field sprinkler system in 2010; $84,369 to replace deteriorated softball dugouts at the high school in 2011; $316,356 to install projectors in elementary classrooms in 2011; Rankin Elementary Construct media center 2008 $96,467 to build a media center at Rankin Elementary in 2008 and much more including roof and paving repairs, storage rooms and athletic field enhancements.
