For Adults Only at the WFBA lucheon Sept. 18

FLINT TWP.— “For Adults Only: Creating a Workplace Where Everyone Functions as an Adult” will be the topic covered by author and executive coach Bill Diedrich, who will be the guest speaker at the West Flint Business Association luncheon meeting, noon to 1:15 p.m. Wed, Sept. 18, held in the meeting room of Teppanyaki Grill in the Target Plaza on Miller Road.

Diedrich will discuss the ability to function as an adult at work and what an adult organization looks likes. Karyn Miller, Flint Township supervisor, will give a five-minute update on local developments. No reservations are needed and the public is welcome.

WFBA is made up of about 100 members of the business, professional and civic community and serves as a forum for news and people affecting Flint Township. — R.S.

Escorted motorcycle ride in Genesee this weekend

FLINT TWP. — Motorcyclists will meet Saturday morning at the Vehicle City Harley Davidson dealership on Austins Parkway for a 40-mile police-escorted ride around Genesee County, ending at the 7th annual Bikes on the Bricks (BOB) event in downtown Flint. Vehicle City is a presenting sponsor of the gathering and will also host a kick-off party Friday from 2-8 p.m. Most BOB events take place in downtown Flint including a police skills competition, fashion show, stunt show, beer tent and more. Three days of activities start Friday at 10 a.m. and conclude Sunday afternoon. Registration for the police-escorted ride will be from 8-11 a.m. Saturday for a ride departing at 11 a.m. The ride route follows paved roads at speeds of about 40 MPH, with minimal turns and all intersections blocked so that no cars get mixed in with the bikes.

Literacy tutors available

FLINT TWP. — In recognition of Sept. 13-19 as Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, the Genesee County Literacy Coalition has announced a lineup of tutors waiting to assist adults who need help to read for free.

Tutors and students have access to meeting space at the Flint Public Library and all Genesee District Libraries. Christ Enrichment Center and St. Luke Church in Flint are two other facilities willing to help people with their reading. Details: Call 810-239-9425. — R.S.

Mideast luncheon today

FLINT TWP. — A Middle Eastern Luncheon and Bake Sale at St. George Orthodox Church, 5191 Lennon Road, takes place today, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The menu includes traditional favorites such as cooked Kibbee,, green bean stew and rice, hummus and more.
