SURE SIGN OF SPRING

Photo by Rhonda Sanders Photo by Rhonda Sanders Despite the unwelcome intrusion of snow during the past week, the annual display of blue pinwheels sprouted in front of the Health Alliance Plan (HAP) building at Corunna and Linden Road is a show of support for April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The pinwheels symbolize happy childhoods and blue is a feature of Paint Our Town Blue, a public awareness campaign, serving as a visual reminder of the need to protect children. Businesses, parents and private citizens countywide are showing support by putting up blue ribbons or bows on doors, car antennas and mail boxes, planting a pinwheel garden in the front yard, changing outside lights to blue bulbs and wearing a blue ribbon. Also, coming up on April 20 is Wear Blue Day when everyone is asked to wear blue as a sign of support. April 29 is Blue Sunday when churches will participate in the effort to raise awareness about child abuse.
