“The Excellence Award is the highest award presented in the VEX programs,” according to the VEX website. “The recipient of this award is a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a high-quality robotics program. The Excellence Award is earned by an entire school or organization at Worlds, not just a single team.

This team excels in many areas and is a shining example of dedication, devotion, hard work and teamwork.”

CAMS robotics team is the reigning state champions in Michigan, retaining their 2017 crown for the second consecutive year.

At the invitational World meet, they competed against 184 middle school teams from around the world. These teams earned the right to be there from a starting pool of approximately 10,000 registered teams worldwide.

To win the Excellence Award, the team underwent an interview process and submitted engineering notebooks chronicling efforts from the beginning of the season and documenting the building and engineering processes used by the team.

They also were required to complete two STEM projects. The CAMS team entered a Critical Picture analysis and a video written and performed by the team about the creation of a robot.

Excellence Award criteria also requires a Community Outreach Initiative. The MO’ Peeps assisted in the Haskell Community Center Water Project in Flint.

Members of the team are Lydia Minzey, Parker Oosterhof, Noah Mattson, Micah Shamly, Sierra Robinson, Faith Simpson, Jack Roy, Arryonna Crosby, Emery Walling, Chase Pelky, Haize Gaither, and Max Johnson

The team is coached by Leanne Welch (C-A teacher), Amy Johnson (C-A teacher) and Dylan Elmer.
