FLINT TWP. — Two of four suspects have been arrested after attempting to rob Medawar Jewelers, 3093 S Linden Road, according to Lt. Robert Batinkoff, in a report to the township board Monday night.
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, May 16, the four unarmed suspects entered the store and used hammers to smash open display cases containing Rolex watches. They fled when confronted by a security guard and dropped the merchandise in flight.
Two fled to a vehicle and were arrested a short time later thanks to the action of an alert citizen who noticed them running, followed them to their car and took a photo of it including the license plate number.
The vehicle was stopped a short time later on I-75 south by Grand Blanc Township police. The two suspects who are from Westland were arrested. They are believed to have been involved in similar robberies in the Westland area, Batinkoff said. Officers also recovered quite a bit of stolen property.
The other two suspects flied on foot into the woods and are still at large. Police are circulating surveillance photos of them, hoped to lead to their capture.
