MUNDY TWP. — A 33-year-old Gaines Township woman reportedly going the wrong way on US-23 was one of two people injured in a head-on crash early Thursday, Aug. 13.
Around 4:45 a.m., Metro Police Authority officers were dispatched to a report of a Dodge Journey going south in the northbound lane, according to a press release from the agency.
A few moments later, dispatchers advised that the vehicle had been involved in a head- on collision with a Hyundai Veracruz just south of Grand Blanc Road, investigators said. A 51-year-old Flint man was driving the Hyundai.
Police used fire extinguishers to put out flames on the Dodge before emergency services could extricate the woman from the vehicle, police said.
Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Hurley Medical Center where they were listed in critical condition immediately after the crash.
The Crash Investigation Response Team, a partnership among the Grand Blanc Township Police Department, City of Grand Blanc Police Department and the Metro Police Authority, was called to the scene and the crash remains under investigation. — L.R.
