25th Bruin Classic set for next week





FLINT – The 25th annual Bruin All-Star Classic, presented by the Bruin Club of Genesee County and Mott Community College, is slated to kick off this upcoming week. All-star games of basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball will be played throughout an action-filled week that will highlight some of the area’s best athletes.

The event begins with volleyball on Tuesday, June 20 from 7-9 p.m. at Mott’s Ballenger Fieldhouse. Wednesday will see the baseball and softball games, which are slated for 6-7:30 p.m. at Whaley Park in Flint, and Thursday will see both basketball games, held at Ballenger Fieldhouse, with the girls’ game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The volleyball game will feature Goodrich’s Kamryn Wallace and Abby Francis, Katelyn Ferris from Bendle, Jordan Williams from Grand Blanc, Swartz Creek’s Rachael Skinner and Davison’s Alexus Angus and Kaseka Mulomede. Others from New Lothrop, Linden, Lake Fenton, Fenton and Corunna will also be competing.

As for the baseball game, the athletes will be split up into two teams, which are the black and gold teams. The gold team will feature Swartz Creek’s Sam Anderson, Jaxson Beckham, Logan Mesack and Mitchell Conley. Flushing’s Jacob Murphy, Kelton Czyzio and Tyler Randick will also be joining, along with their coach, Steve Burdis, who was named as one of the team’s three coaches.

Josh Posey from Bentley, Payne Staton from Byron, Luke Kliendel of Goodrich and Todd Woloszyk of Lapeer are all slated to join the black squad, along with many others. Davison is sending three athletes to the game, including Brandon Reese, Hunter Addison and Nick Densmore. Carson Kempa and Mitch Bonner will represent North Branch, Kyle Carlson and Ethan Wolf will represent LakeVille and Noah Hamilton, Nick Morales, Dylan Cummings and Logan Fleming will all represent Grand Blanc. LakeVille’s coach Drew Johnson will also be in attendance as one of the black team’s coaches.

The softball game features two area coaches in Davison’s Rob Markwardt and Lapeer’s Jody Markwart. It will also feature a black and a gold squad, but teams were not yet sorted prior to press deadlines.

Grand Blanc’s Zapporah Tyrner, Olivia Jackson and Samantha Brimer will all be in action as well as Byron’s Parker Viele and Sydney Anderson. Sarah Meyer, Kaitlyn Crannie, Miranda Strobl and Sierra Newcomb will all represent Davison. LakeVille will be represented by Sydney McKay and Elizabeth Reynolds and Lapeer will send both Sam Thicke and Brooklyn Withey. Others from Genesee, Clio, New Lothrop, Mt. Morris, Corunna, Montrose, Lake Fenton, Durand, Beecher, Millington, Linden and Dundee will also be joining.

As for the boys’ and girls’ basketball games, the rosters were not finalized as we went to press Wednesday.
