DAVISON — The dogs will have their day.
The 4th Annual Davison Dog Walk will take place Sept. 16 from 1-4 p.m. in the Jack Abernathy Regional Park. The dog walk will benefit the Friends of the Genesee County Animal Shelter.
Registration costs $10 per dog or $15 for two or $5 per dog with a donation of a bag of dog or cat food.
Organizer Denice Wagner said there’s nothing new with this year’s format for the walk, which she and sister Deanna Sytek-Snyder founded.
The sisters were inspired by Sytek- Snyder’s daughter, Avery, and friend Madeline Karr, who sold lemonade at their stand to raise money to donate for animal rescue.
“It stemmed from the lemonade sale. The girls donated the proceeds to animal rescue,” said Sytek-Snyder of Davison Township. “It was a hot July day and in five hours they raised $146. People definitely supported it — so we said could do something bigger than that.”
From that the Dog Walk was born, and the sister’s said it has grown into a major event for the community — as well as a “big party” for dogs.
“We will have local vets, rescue groups and approximately 25 vendors,” said Wagner. “Last year we had over 100 dogs register for the event.”
Wagner said the goal is to raise money and awareness for local animal rescues.
Each registered dog will receive a bandana and goodie bag filled with dog food and toys. The event will conclude with a silent auction and pet contest judged by local celebrities.
Registration, vendors and pet games will be held starting at 1 p.m. with the Dog Walk at 2 p.m. and a Pet Contest with local celebrity judges at 3 p.m. There will also be a silent auction from 1-3 p.m. Details: Call 810-348-0113, 810-407-9038 or 417-396-6532.
