GRAND BLANC — For the first time this year, the annual 5K Run & Walk, Teal Track and Trail will be held in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce’s Family Fun Fest. The event is a fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer research.
Created by Kirk and Marie Heath in memory of their daughter Wendy, who passed away in 2012, the run is a favorite local event for many residents. The Heath’s manage multiple local McDonald franchises and are no stranger to giving to charity as the support several large and small fundraising events for organizations all over the county every year.
Naturally, this one holds a special place in their heart. Those wishing to join them in the spirit of this event, and over the age of 21 will receive a beer tent entry wristband as well as be close to the other festival events.
Special runner Ronald McDonald will be on the course to celebrate with the younger runners and act as race “pilot”.
Finishers can look forward to Nicole’s cupcakes, Marie’s tasty chocolate covered pretzels or Laurie’s fabulous fudge.
All proceeds go to Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MIOCA. org). Sponsorship and registration is on line at: www.runsignup.com/Race/ MI/GrandBlanc/TealTrackandTrail .
The event will be held next Friday, June 12, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand Blanc High School East Campus, located at 12500 Holly Road. Volunteer opportunities and other information is available at: tealtrackandtrail. weebly.com/. — P.S.
