FLINT TWP. — Whether you want to spread some light around during the holiday season or simply surprise a musician in your life, the Carman- Ainsworth music department has a novel gift idea.
It is selling lamps created from repurposed old musical instruments. Real trumpets, clarinets, flutes and other retired instruments have been wired to create the body of the lamp. Some include shades embellished with musical motifs or college loyalty logos from the University of Michigan or Michigan State University.
“No two are really alike,” said Suzanne E. Miller, C-A music educator and K-12 music coordinator.
Each lamp sells for $100 and can be purchased by contacting Miller at the middle school at 810-591-6236.
Twelve of the instrument amps also are currently on display and for sale at The Great Lakes Marketplace in Holly, Miller said, adding that a few have sold.
These novelty lamps aren’t just a holiday fund-raising idea but an ongoing enterprise for the CA music program, she said.
