A look at MLB playoffs and a filly wins Preakness

Fat Guy Corner

The baseball playoffs went from 16 teams to eight teams real quickly.

The Minnesota Twins — oh my, how can you lose so many playoff games in a row? The Twins have lost 18 straight playoff games. I cannot even grasp how unimaginable that feat really is. The Twins lost to the cheaters of major league baseball, the Houston Astros.

The Houston “Garbage Cans” will take on the Oakland A’s who defeated the Chicago White Sox. Who do I like in this series? I hate to say it, but I see the Houston team winning the best of five series in four games. The Oakland team sometimes struggles at the plate to score runs.

The New York Yankees disposed of the Cleveland Indians in two games. The Yankees will play the Tampa Bay Rays in what should be a tremendous series going the full five games.

The Rays crushed the Toronto Blue Jays for the right to play the Yankees. I like the Yankee’s bats to deliver huge homers in this series and that will be the difference.

The Houston Astros will meet the Yankees for the right to represent the American League in the World Series.

The National League has the San Diego Padres taking on the favorite Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres defeated the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dodgers took out the Milwaukee Brewers. The Padres will push the Dodgers in this series, however, the Dodgers pitching is much deeper than San Diego’s. The Dodgers will advance.

The Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins will be another good series. Who had the Marlins defeating the Chicago Cubs? I can say not I, that’s for sure. The Atlanta team took out the no hitting Cincinnati Reds. I like the Braves to win this series over the Marlins.

The National League will have the Dodgers and Braves facing one another for the right to represent the National League in the World Series.

The Detroit Lions blew another double digit lead! Yes, five minutes into the football game and the Lions were up 14-0 over New Orleans. We all know how this storyline ends don’t we? Yes, the Saints ripped off 35 unanswered points against the pitiful Lions defense. The Saints win the game 35-29 over the “Cryons.”

I predicted the Saints 35-31, so I was pretty darn close with getting the final score correct. Can we ever take the pencil and just erase the last three seasons under Patricia? He is awful and I can’t wait for him to get the boot!

The Houston Texans booted Bill O’Brien to the curb as he becomes the first NFL coach to receive the ziggy! He was terrible as a coach. I always wondered how he lasted so long in Houston. The Houston 0-4 start and loss to the Minnesota Vikings was enough to wave bye bye to Bill O’Brien. The Lions should defeat the bye week in a close one this Sunday!

The Preakness Stakes winner was a filly named Swiss Skydiver who upset the favorite Authentic. The filly became only the sixth filly to ever win the Preakness Stakes. If you bet Swiss Skydiver (I did not) you cashed a nice score at 11-to-1 odds. It was a tremendous horse race and congrats to Swiss Skydiver for taking out the boys.

I am so upset with how bad my NFL picks have been this season. I will try to get back on the winning side this week. I can be reached at thefatguy@mihomepaper.com.
