A recap and preview of NFL games, including the geezer special

Fat Guy Corner

The NFL Wildcard Weekend featured some good and bad football games. Let’s start with Saturday’s action on the grid iron.

The Buffalo Bills took care of the Colts in a tight one 27-24. The win was Buffalo’s first playoff win in 25 years. I thought the coaching of Colts Frank Reich was horrendous. Why the Colts went for it on fourth and three right before the halftime is stunning and stupid football. I say take the three points and go up 13-7 and all the positive things moving forward. What happened was predictable as Buffalo scored a touchdown before halftime to go up 14-10.

The L.A. Rams disposed of the Seahawks on the road 30-20. The Rams had to use Jared Goff at quarterback after starter John Wolford went out early with an injury. The thumb injury Goff suffered and had repaired two weeks ago held up. The Rams defense was stifling on Seattle’s offense and the Rams move on in the playoffs.

The Saturday nightcap featured Tampa winning 31-23. The Washington Football Team put up a valiant fight with Taylor Heinicke at quarterback. I tell you what, Heinicke played well and impressed me. However, his effort fell short and Tampa and Tom Brady move into the next round of the playoffs. The fat guy predictions were a solid 3-0 on Saturday.

The Sunday NFL action started with the Ravens winning at Tennessee. The Titans lost 20-13, giving Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson his first post season victory. The Titans Derrick Henry had a paltry 40 yards on 18 carries. The Titans were held to their lowest point total of the season.

The Saints did not look spectacular in beating the Bears 21-9. However, beating a horrible Bears team does not take much effort. The Bears were like watching the Lions on Sunday! This was the worst game of the weekend by far to watch.

The Sunday nightcap was a stunner as Cleveland jumped out to a 28-0 lead over Pittsburgh and hung on for a 48-37 victory. The Cleveland Browns had not won a playoff game since 1995.

They had also lost 17 straight games at Pittsburgh! I feel good for the city of Cleveland as their fans have suffered much like us Lions fans. Let’s look at this weekend’s NFL Playoff games. The first game is Saturday at 4:35 p.m. on Fox featuring the L.A. Rams at Green Bay. The Rams defense will try to shut down the high scoring offense of the Pack.

The Rams defense is the No. 1 scoring defense and the Packers are No. 1 in scoring offense. I think Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers will get the job done in a close game. Prediction: I Back the Pack 23 and Scram It All 20.

The Saturday night game features Baltimore at Buffalo on NBC at 8:15 p.m. I personally cannot wait for this football game. This one will feature two good quarterbacks in Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Can Lamar deliver the upset for Baltimore or will Josh take Buffalo to the victory? My prediction: The Bills Cash In 26 and Purple Birds 23.

The Sunday game at 3:05 p.m. will have the Browns at the Chiefs on CBS. There is no need for much here as Pat Mahomes and company win this football game. The Chefs 31 and Baker and the Browns 21.

The Tampa at New Orleans quarterback geezer special is Sunday night at 6:40 p.m. on FOX. How about Drew Brees 41 years old against Tom Brady 43 years old? I say this game might be past their bed times when it is all over. This should be a fantastic football game. I have both teams ranked even. I will side with the GOAT and Tom Brady to win. Bring Back the Orange Uniforms 24 and Drew’s Last Game 21.

I will look at the Jimmy Harbaugh contract situation next week.

The Ohio State Buckeyes were demolished by the Alabama Crimson Tide 52-24. The football game was like watching the varsity vs. the junior varsity. ROLL TIDE! I can be reached at thefatguy@mihomepapers.com.
