FLINT TOWNSHIP — Huma Ahmad and Diamond Lester received January Student of the Month Honors from the Genesee Valley Rotary Club.
Ahmad, a senior, was nominated by Krystal Roos.
“(Ahmad) is a hard-working self-starter,” Roos wrote. “I loved having Huma in my Project Lead the Way class. Then, in advisory, last year, she was my go-to tutor for struggling math students. She is helpful and empathetic while maintaining a drive to learn. She is at the top of her class and is an excellent person. She is kind and helpful while also being intensely competitive and humble.”
Ahmad has been accepted to the University of Michigan with a four-year, full-ride scholarship.
“She’s grown into such a wonderful person, passionate about her studies and excited for a future at U of M,” Roos wrote.
Lester is a junior who participates in volleyball.
Collette Bryan nominated her.
“Diamond is an example of how to conduct oneself as a person and as a student,” Bryan wrote. “Diamond is self-motivated and demonstrates an extremely high work ethic. … She goes above and beyond to be successful and to overcome obstacles.
“As a person, she sticks up for those who need support, and she is not only accepting of the differences of others around her, but she conscientiously includes everyone and reaches out to people. Diamond demonstrates a high level of respect at all times to both adults and fellow students. She is also a leader on the volleyball team and in school.” — L.R.
