GRAND BLANC TWP. — The Al Serra Automotive Group presented a preliminary site plan to Grand Blanc Township officials last week with a proposal to construct a 3,156 square foot addition to their existing Subaru dealership in accordance with a directive, according to Joe Serra, from Subaru corporate officials.
The expansion will include extending the service write-up and bay areas as well as the showroom. The preliminary plan was approved with conditions but the group will have to appear at the next Planning Commission to obtain a Special Land Use (SLU) permit as automobile repair/ servicing requires it, even if just for an expansion.
The site and original SLU were approved in April, 2012. The new area will have a 1,734 square foot service area, 1,218 square foot showroom, and a 204 square foot write-up area
The site plan review committee verified the proposed plan met setback and other requirement according to the zoning ordinance and only asked for corrections to lighting and directional labels on the submitted plan presented by Lisa Easterwood of Fleis and VanDenBrink Engineering.
Joe Serra said they don’t need the additional but wanted to meet standards set by Subaru as well as get ahead of the growth they see occurring in the market. Their physical growth is limited at the current location and he implied they might be looking at a bigger site in another location in four years if they continue to grow.
