Ambulance crashes, rolls

FLINT TWP. — An EMT was injured when an ambulance and a pickup truck collided Thursday, March 16.

Flint Township police responded to the crash that occurred about 5:30 p.m. at Miller and Dye roads.

The driver of the Patriot ambulance told investigators he was en route to an emergency and had his lights and siren activated as he approached the red light on westbound Miller Road.

The driver reportedly said he had stopped to allow traffic going north and south to clear the intersection. According to the police report, the driver then proceeded into the intersection where a northbound Chevrolet Silverado struck the ambulance, causing it to tip onto its side.

The EMT, who was riding in the passenger seat, received cuts to her hands.

The 32-year-old Flushing man who was driving the pickup was cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle. — L.R.
