Amendments proposed for water, sewer rate ordinances

FLINT TWP. — Amendments to ordinances dealing with sewer and water rates passed first reading on April 21 and are due for second reading and adoption at the township board’s next meeting on May 5.

Without discussion, the board approved changes to Chapter 16 – Utilities. Full text of township ordinances is posted on its web site under ordinances.

The amendment of Article 2, Sec. 16.2-8 concerns water supply charges.

The existing language states “charges for water supply services to each premise within the township water distribution system shall be determined by resolution of the board from time to time.”

The proposed amended language will state that the rate “shall be determined by rate set by Genesee County Water and Waste Services as amended from time to time plus the water charge as set by resolu- tion of the board from time to time.”

The language was not changed in the section dealing with automatic charges for irrigation meters and usage.

In Section B pertaining to fire hydrant service, language is being added to state that charges “will be determined by the rate set by Genesee County Water and Waste Services.” The current ordinance states only that the charges will be set by a resolution from the board from time to time.

The second proposed ordinance amendment is for Article 2, concerning sewer rate computation (Sec. 16.3-75) and nonmetered service charge (Section 16.3-76).

Similarly, the language is being changed to state that monthly charges will be “determined by the rate set by the Genesee County Water and Waste Services plus the sewer charge as set by the resolution of the board.”

The existing resolution only states that rates are set by resolution of the township board.

The second section dealing with nonmetered service charges also is being amended to indicate that rates are set by Water and Waste Services plus the sewer charge as set by resolution of the board.
