Ananich wins 27th district senate seat



FLINT TWP. —Jim Ananich is the new state senator representing district 27.

Ananich, a Democrat, won the seat in Tuesday’s election by defeating Republican challenger Robert J. Daunt.

Ananich received 8,728 (75.27 percent). of votes while Daunt polled 2,640 (22.77 percent) of the vote.

Ananich will take over the senate seat vacated by John Gleason who was elected Genesee County Clerk in the November election. Ananich beat out four Democrat contenders in the March 12 primary election to win the right to face Daunt in the general election.

Ananich previously beat Daunt who ran against him in November for his 49th district congressional seat. Ananich received about 73 percent of the total vote.

Ananich’s new constituency — State Senate District 27 — encompasses Argentine Township, Clayton Township, the City of Fenton, Fenton Township, the City of Flint, Flint Township, the City of Flushing, Flushing Township, Gaines Township, Genesee Township, the City of Linden, the City of Montrose, Montrose Township, Mundy Township and the City of Swartz Creek. — Rhonda Sanders
