Annual rite of summer

In what has become a much-anticipated summer outing for the entire family, the annual Mid-East Festival at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, 4133 Calkins Road, will bring a variety of free activities to the area this weekend. A fireworks show, a raffle, authentic foods, live bands, dancing and more are among cultural offerings at the event. Admission is free. The event will begin with an opening ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 17 and continue until midnight with music, belly dance performances and a live band. The fun continues on Saturday, July 18 from noon – midnight, including a fireworks show scheduled at 9:40 p.m. The festival wraps on Sunday from noon – 6 p.m. including a raffle drawing with cash prizes. A food tent each day will serve a variety of popular mid-eastern dishes and desserts. Daily church tours and belly dancing lessons will be offered and children’s activities will include bungee jumping, a bounce house, walk on water, face painting and more.
