FLINT TWP. — The games have begun. After an opening ceremony held on Monday at the Davison Area Senior Center, hundreds of senior citizens across the county are honing their skills in an effort to win medals in the 38th annual Senior Winter Games (SWG).
Senior Winter Games are a cooperative effort of the Genesee County Senior Directors Association, all area senior citizen centers and supporting businesses.
Participation in The Games are open to Genesee County residents age 50 years and older and are designed to promote physical and social activity. Sign-ups for the various activities have already taken place.
Competition kicked off on Monday with a fun pie-eating contest followed by bowling at Richfield Bowl on Tuesday; Jigsaw Puzzle and Spades competition on Wednesday at the Eastside Senior Center and other events on Thursday and Friday at the Soccer Zone and the Davison Senior Center, according to an event schedule provided by Lynn M. Radzilowski, county Senior Services Director.
Daily competitions to be held Monday through Friday through Feb. 25 (except on Presidents Day Feb. 15) include a spelling bee, scrabble, archery, dominoes, checkers, pottery and basket making, line dancing, shuffleboard and much more.
The Flint Township Carman- Ainsworth Senior Center, 2071 S Graham Rd, will get in on the action by hosting a Frisbee Toss contest at 10 a.m. on Feb. 22.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers all receive a medal (gold, silver, bronze), Radzilowski said. For more information about the games and locations, contact the senior center at 810-732-6290.
