ApologetiX returns to Chesaning amphitheater stage July 17

CHESANING — ApologetiX, that Christian parody band from Pittsburgh, Penn., will be back in Michigan on Friday, July 17 to perform another concert on the Chesaning amphitheater stage in Showboat Park.

Five years ago, the band members made a huge impression when they performed songs like I Love Apostle Paul to the tune of I Love Rock ‘n Roll made popular by Joan Jett.

ApologetiX has released about 40 CDs in all. The band has performed 1,500 concerts, traveling to all 50 states since the band’s inception 23 years ago.

ApologetiX band leader J. Jackson re-writes the lyrics, creating Biblical parodies of popular songs. The band’s mission is to “reach the lost and teach the rest.” ApologetiX has performed a variety of music styles, like pop, classic rock, metal and a touch of country.

Their music has been described as “Weird Al” meets Billy Graham.

“We take the Bible very seriously, we just don’t take ourselves very seriously,” Jackson said.

This year’s concert is expected to include ApologetiX parodies such as: The Power Above (parody of The Power of Love by Huey Lewis & the News); Flirtin’ with the Pastor (parody of Flirtin’ with Disaster by Molly Hatchet); Enter Samson (parody of Enter Sandman by Metallica), Judge (parody of Jump by Van Halen) and Let’s Redo the Music (parody of Listen to the Music by the Doobie Brothers).

ApologetiX concerts are great for all ages who enjoy lively music. Jackson says, “Parents, bring your kids. Kids, bring your parents.”

This ApologetiX concert is sponsored in part by the View Newspaper Group and Mel Ervin Ford of Chesaning.

Tickets are $10 each in advance, or $15 each at the gate.
