FLINT TWP. — Larry Ford was reappointed to the Flint Township Planning Commission by the township board in a close 4- 3 vote, at its March 5 meeting.
Trustees Barb Vert and Belenda Parker and Treasurer Sandra Wright voted against the appointment.
“I am disappointed that you are not recommending somebody else, someone new,’’ Vert said to Supervisor Karyn Miller, who nominated Ford.
“I think it is time for new ideas and people,” Vert said.
Miller said there is another open position for which she had recently received a resume.
Vert asked for copies of all active resumes that Miller has received, noting one position, open since August, still has not been filled.
Miller responded that the delay is due to extenuating circumstances. Some applicants have withdrawn for personal reasons, she said.
She agreed to provide copies of resumes to Vert but said she did not see why it was necessary since the supervisor recommends appointments to the planning commission.
Parker, who also voted no, said she would like to see better public notice made to residents when positions come open.
Wright did not comment on her objection.
Ford who has been active in public service and economic development for more than 30 years was reappointed to a term that expires in 2014. He was present at the meeting but had stepped out of the room when his reappointment was discussed.
