Area first responders honored through Hometown Hero contest

GENESEE TWP. — A trio of local first responders were honored for their service with the “Hometown Hero contest” presented by Backyard Oasis Pond & Garden Center in Genesee Township.

On Aug. 6, Backyard Oasis chose three first responders from a list of nominees for the distinction of Hometown Hero. Nominees for the contest were selected by their friends and family members during the month of July.

The Hometown Hero first place winner was Kyle Guest, a local police officer. As the grand prize winner, Guest will receive a pondless cascading waterfall in his backyard, which will be installed free of charge by Backyard Oasis.

Second place went to Kristie Brezinski, an ICU nurse from Flushing who works at Hurley Hospital, and third place went to Jerry Parks, a retired police officer and detective from Genesee County. Brezinski and Parks received garden décor and flags representing their respective occupations. — B.G.
