GENESEE COUNTY — The 33rd Annual Senior Winter Games will kick off Feb. 7 at local senior centers around Genesee County. The SWG, which runs Feb. 7-23, features a variety of competition categories, including Pie Eating at 1 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Burton Senior Center; Scrabble at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 11 at the Swartz Creek Area Senior Center; Beachball Volleyball at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 14 at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church; Shuffleboard at 1 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Davison-Richfield Senior Center; a Fitness Walk, Free Throw and Frisby Toss Feb. 17 at Hurley Fitness Center; and Wii Table Tennis at 1 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Grand Blanc Senior Center.
The Opening Ceremony is 1 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Burton Senior Center, 3410 S. Grand Traverse St.
The Closing Ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 23 at the Davison Knights of Columbus Hall, 8428 Davison Rd. For the Closing Ceremony, the doors open at 10 a.m. with the program at 11 a.m. and lunch at 11:30 a.m.
The top three finishers in each event receives a gold, silver and bronze medal.
Ties will be broken whenever possible with the runner up receiving the silver medal.
The purpose of the Senior Winter Games of Genesee County is to promote physical and social activities among senior citizens. The SWG is a cooperative effort of the City of Flint Department of Parks and Recreation, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, the Genesee County Senior Directors Association, all area senior citizens centers and supporting businesses.
The 2011 SWG is sponsored by Citizens Bank, UAW CAP Council, Flint Region 1-C, Valley Area Agency on Aging and HealthPlus MedicarePlus.
