Arrest made in two-year-old gas station homicide




FLINT TWP. — Flint Township police have arrested a suspect in a late night fatal shooting at a gas station on Ballenger Hwy., according to a press release from Sgt. James Baldwin.

The shooting happened July 11, 2011. At about 1:20 a.m., Flint Township Police responded to a call at the Admiral Gas station, 1135 N. Ballenger Hwy, for reports of a fight involving a male and two females. Moments later, gunfire was reported at the scene.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Ryan Patrick Pinkston, 35, of Flint, had suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries on July 19, 2011.

Two years later, detectives from Flint Township investigated a tip that resulted in a suspect being identified. On Wednesday, July 31, 2013, detectives from the GAIN auto theft unit arrested Autrell Dewann Westbrooks, 28, of Flint who was then interviewed by Flint Township detectives.

As a result, on Aug. 2, the Genesee County Prosecutors Office issued charges of Open Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Felony Firearm against the suspect. Westbrooks has been arraigned in the 67th District Court. — By Rhonda S. Sanders
