— The Swartz Creek Area Art Guild announces the opening of its new Art Gallery/Teaching Studio this weekend.
The gallery, located at 8048 Miller Rd., will be open noon-7 p.m. Dec. 4. The Guild currently is developing art classes for January 2011 and will soon publish the schedule. The community is invited to attend the opening of the Art Gallery/Teaching Studio. Refreshments will be served and artwork will be on display for viewing.
The gallery is housed adjacent to Howe Art Supplies, also at 8048 Miller Rd., which is owned by Sharlene Howe. The Art Gallery is the realization of the Swartz Creek Area Art Guild as a place for local artists to display their works, in addition to being a venue for individuals to take art classes from instructors. Some of the classes the gallery will offer are photography, jewelry, mosaics, basic drawing, pastels and acrylic.
In addition to the upcoming soft opening, the Guild is sponsoring an art auction 1-5 p.m. Dec. 12. This fundraising event will be held at the Swartz Creek Senior Citizens Center, 8095 Civic Drive. Unique art pieces from artists from around Michigan will be available for purchase. Proceeds from this auction will assist the Guild to develop its teaching studios. The mission of the Guild is to promote interest in the visual arts in the greater Swartz Creek area.
