Atherton Board of Education seeking to fill vacancy


BURTON — The Atherton Board of Education has announced there is a vacancy on the board as a result of the resignation of Donald Embury.

Embury has served on the Board of Education since July 2004.

“We are appreciative of his many years of service and wish him all the best in the years to come,” the board said in a statement released Friday.

The board will select a candidate to fill the vacated seat in a process that is thorough and open to the public consistent with Revised School Code Section 380.614.

Eligible applicants must be a registered voter who lives in the Atherton School District. To be considered for appointment, candidates must submit a one-page letter of application along with a resume to the Atherton Superintendent’s Office no later than 4 p.m., Monday, June 7.

Candidates will be interviewed in the Jr/Sr High School Media Center, 3354 South Genesee Rd., Burton, Michigan. All interviews and meetings related to filling the vacant board seat are open to the public.

The public is invited to attend the interviews, masks will be required. Initial interviews are scheduled for June 14. If needed, a second round of interviews for final candidates will be held.

Members of the Atherton Board of Education will select the new board member immediately following the completion of all interviews.

The names of the candidates and a complete schedule of interviews and meetings will be posted once applications have been submitted.

Pursuant to the Revised School Code, the newly selected board member will serve until Dec. 31, 2022.
