FLINT TWP. — Back for its second year in Flint Township, the Back to the Bricks Tune-up party, one of five taking place next week, will be rolling into the parking lot at the Genesee Valley Mall from 1 -4 p.m., Aug. 8.
The parade of classic cars will be staged in the parking lot between the Logan’s and Bar Louie restaurants on the south side of the mall facing Miller Road, said Kristen Cassabon, mall manager. Event details were not available at press time but T-shirt tickets will be handed out to the cruisers, one per car, and the mall will probably offer specials and coupons, said Roberta Vasilow, of the BTB committee.
Last year, nearly 300 classic cars of all colors and makes showed up for the first BTB Tune-up party held at the Pasty Lou Williamson dealership. Events included a favorite car judging contest.
At 4 p.m., the venue will shift to Dukes’ Car and Stereo on Miller Road where prizes, free T-shirts and more fun will be offered.
Famous Dave’s BBQ is expected to be participating in the Duke’s event along with DJ Bob Steel, a cars awards and drawings for prizes, Vasilow said. Then the T-shirt giveaway, sponsored by ELGA credit union, will start at 7:30 PM.
Same as last year, the BTB committee will be giving out 250 unique ‘Tune-up Party’ T-shirts at all five tune-up events. Each of the five collectible shirts, will sport different graphics and colors. Some cruisers try to hit all five tune-up events for a chance to collect all five shirts, according to information posted on the BTB web site.
The main BTB event in downtown Flint, now in its 8th year, will take place Aug. 14-18.
