FLINT – Now that the Promo Tour is in the rear view, final preparations are underway for the Back to the Bricks summer extravaganza, which gears up with the Tune-Up Parties on successive days from August 7-12 in Davison, Clio, Linden, Fenton, Flushing/Swartz Creek, and Mt. Morris/Beecher. The free parties consist of car shows, concessions, live music, dancing, giveaways and more.
Ed and Carol McDonough have been working with the eight Genesee County communities in preparation for the Tune-Up Parties, which commence on Mon., Aug. 7 at John’s Pizzeria and VG’s Super Market in Davison.
Tuesday’s Party will be at the Clio Mall, and the Tune-Up Parties continue on Wednesday in Linden, and Thurs., Aug. 10 in Fenton. Friday’s festivities will begin at the A-1 Treat Barn on the corner of Miller and Seymour (formerly the DQ) just west of downtown Swartz Creek.
Later, that same afternoon, the party will head to the Flushing “A” where the crowd will wrap up the evening. Saturday’s Tune-Up Parties will begin at the old K-Mart site just north of Beecher High School, and travel to Mt. Morris for the evening. A minicruise from Beecher to Mt. Morris on Saturday will be an excellent way to celebrate the finale of Tune-Up Week.
The Back to the Bricks committee has been working hard on plans for the Main Event Week, which kicks into high gear on Tues., August 15th with “Bricks Flicks” at the US 23 Drive-in theater on Fenton Road where the organization will proudly present the 1981 edition of Cannonball Run. Gates open at 4 p.m. with special displays by Buick, a presenting sponsor, ELGA Credit Union, and others. Music will be provided by DJ Bob Steel, and will begin at 5 p.m., and Back to the Bricks t-shirts, hats, posters, and other memorabilia will be available for purchase.
Founded by Al Hatch, Back to the Bricks has grown substantially, now including hundreds of registered vehicles, as well as thousands of spectators and automotive aficionados. This year, the 13th Annual Back to the Bricks Main Event will take place in downtown Flint on Tues., Aug. 16 through Sat., Aug. 19.
