GENESEE COUNTY — The fun and excitement of the annual Back to the Bricks event is approaching, but before car lovers stroll the streets for the main event, it’s time to venture out into neighboring communities to participate in the annual Tune Up Party Week.

The free parties begin on Monday Aug. 8 in Flint Township and tour through Saturday Aug. 13, making stops in different cities every day. Each party will have a 50s, 60s, or 70s theme and consist of car shows, concessions, vendors, live music, dancing and giveaways.

The week kicks off Monday Aug. 8 in Flint Township, continues Tuesday Aug. 9 in Clio, Wednesday Aug. 10 in Linden, Thursday Aug. 11 in Fenton, Friday Aug. 12 in Davison, and wraps up in Mt. Morris and the Beecher Music Festival on Saturday Aug. 13.

This year Ed McDonough, an organizer of the event, is eager for the parties to begin. He said he is excited to, “see a lot of different people, not just from the community, but throughout the state, with interesting cars.” He added that he is especially looking forward to his visit to the Auto City Speedway from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 9 in Clio. On Saturday Aug. 13 car enthusiasts are in for a special treat with two car shows taking place in Mt. Morris and in Beecher. The two locations are only a few miles apart and allow owners to show off their rides between the shows.

McDonough is also looking forward to visiting his favorite location at VG’s and John’s Pizzeria in Davison. “There are a lot of cars. From the North to Detroit, there are just a lot of cars to look at,” he said. In addition to the cars there are plenty of t-shirts, as over 200 shirts will be given out (one per car) at each location during the week.
