MUNDY TWP. — Back to the Bricks started off with the 3rd annual the Bricks and Flicks at the US-23 Drive-in.
Organizer and committee member Kenny Keyworth said there were about 1,420 cars inside the drive-in by 7 p.m.
According to Keyworth, last year there 1,320 cars.
He said they were hoping to get 1,500 by the start of the movie “Footloose.”
The movie was chosen because it had a classic Volkswagon Beetle as the featured car.
Keyworth said they try to get movies that have certain a make and model of car and invite the owners of that style to lineup near the main screen.
The year before they had the movie Back to the Future where DeLoreans lined up near the front.
The event had not only classic cars this year, but vendors and a bounce house for kids.
Also, this year’s event welcomed four police departments — Burton, Flint, Mundy Township and Grand Blanc.
Mundy Township and Grand Blanc fire departments were also in attendance.
“If this is any indication of what the week is going to be like there’s going to be a lot of people that will come,” said Chairman of Back to the Bricks Al Hatch.
Keyworth said the five day event will bring 50,000 classic cars and about 500,000 people.
