FLINT — On Aug. 21, representatives from Back to the Bricks with Road Rally, sponsored by TCF Bank and Little Caesars, presented CEO Mindy Williams, with Whaley Children’s Center a check for $4,362.
On July 25, Back to the Bricks with General Motors hosted a second Road Rally for car enthusiasts, also sponsored by TCF Bank and Little Caesars. Back to the Bricks officially partnered with TCF Bank and Little Caesars to continue to offer social distancing events that gets the classic cars out, and cruise through Mid- Michigan in a safe way.
Cars began lining up at 7a.m. at IINN Insight Institute of Neurosurgery & Neuroscience in Flint. To accommodate more than 400 cars, they offered two waves at the starting line. Participants received a packet that morning with top-secret route details and additional information without leaving the safety of their vehicle.
They departed in small groups every 2-3 minutes from IINN and ventured out on the 153-mile journey to Port Huron and back, finishing at Little Caesars in Davison. They traveled through many of Mid- Michigan’s most picturesque small towns and cities.
The various communities were aware of Back to the Bricks’ plans, but the itinerary was not publicized to prevent crowds from congregating along the road. Bathrooms and sanitation stations were available at the start, half-way mark, and finish line.
Participants were encouraged to follow all “social distancing” guidelines along the way and really did a great job. The registration fee for the Road Rally was just $10 per car, and because of the support of the amazing sponsors all proceeds from this event went to Whaley Children’s Center.
Car owners were extremely generous and dropped cash donations the morning of into the Whaley buckets before leaving on their rally.
“Because of their generosity we were able to give more than we initially thought to the much-needed children at Whaley,” said Amber Taylor, executive director of Back to the Bricks, in a statement released Friday.
