GENESEE COUNTY — The Back to the Bricks Tune-Up Party is returning to communities across the county next week to help kick-off the main event the week of Aug. 16-21.
Tune-Up Parties are planned and will take place over the course the week of Aug. 9-14 with events taking place in Davison, Swartz Creek, Linden, Flushing, Flint Township and Mount Morris.
Attractions and activities will vary by location, but include
concessions, Official Back to the Bricks Merchandise, vendors, DJs and live music, dancing in the streets and giveaways, including 100-300 T-shirts, thanks to ELGA Credit Union, at each location with brand new designs unique to that community.
Things kick-off Monday, Aug. 9 when car enthusiasts gather in Davison at John’s Pizzeria, 9010 Davison Rd., and VG’s Supermarket, 8503 Davison Rd., for the first Tune-Up Party of 2021.
On tap for this Tune-Up Party is parking at both John’s Pizzeria and VGs. There will be a band and DJ from 4-8 p.m.
Food will include ribs and hot dogs for sale in the VGs parking lot and a pizza special at John’s Pizzeria.
Shirts will be handed out from 4:30-7 p.m. in the VG’s parking lot.
The party comes to Swartz Creek on Tuesday, Aug. 10.
Classic, vintage and special interest vehicles from all eras will fill the streets of downtown Swartz Creek for the car show that runs from 4-8 p.m.
And, there’s a new feature this year!
“From noon to 3 o’clock, we are going to do a mini rolling cruise,” said Erik Jamison, one of the local organizers.
Car show participants will be invited to cruise up and down Miller Road, from the Rite-Aid plaza to the Kroger plaza, both of which have room to easily turn around and cruise back.
Jamison is working with businesses along the route to provide special offers for the cruisers. Participating businesses will be posted on social media as the event gets closer.
The streets downtown will be shut down starting at 3 p.m. Car show drivers will stage off-site, either at the high school or Kincaid Field (Hometown Days field).
Cars will be parked along Miller Road from Fortino Drive to Morrish Road, on Morrish Road from Miller Road south to Ingalls Street, and on Holland Drive. Between 300 and 500 cars are expected.
Holland Square will accommodate the Back to the Bricks tent, which will have T-shirt sales, and other vendors. Cumulus will be there broadcasting live from 4-6 p.m., and Jamison is working on getting some food trucks, as well.
Visitor parking will be available curbside throughout town.
This is the fourth year that Swartz Creek has participated in the Tune-Up Party festivities.
Back to the Bricks will be rolling into Flushing on Thursday, Aug. 12 for a Tune Up Party at the Flushing A on 200 S. Cherry Street.
The car show will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring a DJ and food specials. Shirt tickets will be given to drivers by ELGA Credit Union beginning at 4 p.m. as they arrive at the venue. Tuneup Party shirts will also be given out between 4-7 p.m.
The Tune-Up Party comes to Flint Township on Friday, Aug. 13 at the former VG’s Food Center Plaza on 5080 Corunna Rd.
The vehicles will enter on Corunna Road. Shirt tickets will be given to drivers by ELGA Credit Union beginning at 4 p.m. as they arrive at the venue. Tune-up Party shirts will be given out from 4:30-7 p.m. Enjoy food trucks and a DJ from 4-8 p.m.
