Baker College of Flint hosts regional leadership conference



FLINT
— Baker College of Flint will host the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) on its campus on Jan. 7, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Approximately 505 area high school BPA student members from 22 area high schools will participate in the event, competing for regional awards in more than 50 categories.

The categories include computer networking and security, desktop publishing, payroll accounting, economic research and development, advanced word processing, medical office procedures, global marketing, extemporaneous speech and interview skills.

“We are pleased to once again host the BPA Regional Leadership Conference as the organization continues its mission to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills,” said Julianne T. Princinsky, Ed.D., Baker College of Flint president.

Participating schools include Bay- Arenac Career Center-C, Bay-Arenac Career Center AM, Bay-Arenac Career Center PM, Brandon High School, Carman-Ainsworth High School, Clarkston High School, Davison High School, Flint Northern High School, Flint Southwestern Academy, Flushing High School, Genesee Area Technology Center I, Genesee Area Technology Center II, Genesee Area Technology Center III, Grand Blanc High School, Hemlock High School, Lake Orion High School, Oxford High School, Saginaw Career Complex- Chapter I, Saginaw Career Complex- Chapter II, Swan Valley High School, Tuscola Technology Center I and Tuscola Technology Center II.

In the event of postponement due to inclement weather, the “snow date” will be Jan. 8.

Finalists are eligible for the State Leadership Conference to be held March 24-27 in Grand Rapids, followed by the National Leadership Conference held in Washington, D.C., May 4-8.

Business Professionals of America is a national career and technical student organization consisting of 23 state associations and more than 54,000 members. The Michigan BPA has approximately 140 chapters and more than 5,000 members. — G.G.
