Barrett raises questions, offers no solutions

Brad Barrett (candidate for Flushing City Council) states in the July 16 Genesee View that Flushing has a “$20 million problem which is five times more than its general fund with regards to its defined benefit pension and its retiree health care program.”

He goes on to offer “simple math to city taxpayers.”

While that is all well and good, as the former city manager I will accept your facts and figures in that regard but if it is your desire to serve the city as a future City Council member, my question to you is “What are you proposing to relieve and improve this situation?”

Your letter tends to be one-sided in its criticism but simply disregards any attempt to offer a solution, a basic part of nearly all campaign platforms. — N. Dean Mosey Jr., Flushing
