Bay City Central sweeps Cavaliers in baseball

FLINT TWP. – Carman-Ainsworth dropped both ends of Monday’s baseball twinbill against Bay City Central. The Cavaliers fell 2-1 in the first game, collecting only two hits. Bay City Central won big in the second game with a 10-3 final as Carman-Ainsworth struggled to find the plate while pitching, walking 10 batters and allowing two runs off loaded bases.

The Cavaliers swept Midland Dow last Wednesday, winning the early game 3-1 and the second 7-4. Chase Matusik pitched a complete game, giving up no runs in the first game. Matusik issued five strikeouts and allowed seven hits and one walk. Matt Durbin led from the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In the late game, Durbin got the save from the mound, going 2-2/3 innings. Trent Green, Spencer Fiewig, Aaron Gagnon and Garret Gleason combined for seven hits at the plate and drove seven runs home.

Carman-Ainsworth’s game against Saginaw last Thursday was canceled due to weather.

The Cavaliers travel to Flint Powers tonight. – K.R.
