FLINT TWP. — The Bay Mills Indian Community recently purchased 28 acres of land in the township, according to a warranty deed filed with the Genesee County Register of Deeds Office Dec. 17.
The vacant land, situated north of Lennon Road and east of Dutcher Road, was purchased by the Bay Mills Indian Community from Joann Marie Kemp. The deed was prepared on Nov. 3 and recorded on Dec. 17. A warranty deed recorded Nov. 3, with the Genesee County Register of Deeds Office shows that Kemp purchased the land from Norel Enterprises, Inc.
While reports have produced speculation on what the Indian community would do with the land near the Genesee Valley Center, many community members believe a casino could be built on the property.
Supervisor Karyn Miller could not be reached for comment. A call to the Tribal Office of the Bay Mills Indian Community was not returned.
