FLINT TWP. — One of the newest additions to the Flint Township Police patrol staff is furry, cute and comforting.

The Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce has donated new teddy bears to law enforcement and first responders around Genesee County, said Police Chief George Sippert.

“These are the nicest bears we have ever seen,’’ Chief Sippert said of the individually wrapped bears that are kept in patrol cars to distribute to children involved in a traumatic experience.

This year, the Chamber contracted with St Lukes N.E.W. Life Center on Lawndale in Flint to sew these unique teddy bears, Chief Sippert said.

One thousand bears are being distributed to police agencies in Genesee County. Chief Sippert said the township force received enough bears to keep several in every patrol car.

Officers have them on hand to give to any child experiencing a frightening/ tragic situation such as an auto accident, fire, domestic violence or other circumstances where a child needs someone or something to hold on to.
