FLINT TWP. — On February 20, Bishop International Airport was named “Airport of the Years at the 2014 Michigan Airport Conference put on by the Michigan Association of Airport Executives.
The award was presented by Michael G. Trout, executive administrator for the Michigan Department of Transportation, Office of Aeronautics, according to a press release. It cited Bishop for excellence in improving the aviation community through the development of numerous infrastructure projects. Bishop was commended for the exemplary manner in which has made airport improvements. Recent safety, preservation and expansion projects have included deicing system improvements, rehabilitation of the terminal apron and taxiway pavements and a terminal building expansion.
Airport director Jim Rice accepted the award, and said the airport’s success would not be possible without its dedicated and knowledgeable staff. — Rhonda Sanders
