FLUSHING — The Blackmore Rowe Insurance 10-12 girl’s softball team has clinched a number-one seed and homefield advantage heading into the league playoffs this week.
Blackmore Rowe (7-2) secured the top spot in its league with a pair of victories, starting with a 1-0 win over Penny Jones Icon Mortgage on June 29. Coming off a 4-0 win over Flushing Vision Source on June 22, Blackmore Rowe pitched yet another shutout in its second-to-last game of the regular season. Reese Lintz and Reese Youngston combined on the mound for the shutout, giving up only one run apiece through the five-inning game (which was shortened due to time limits).
Blackmore Rowe produced its only run of the game in the fourth inning when Maria Haj connected on a hard-hit ground ball to the shallow outfield, driving in Youngston from third base.
Blackmore Rowe played its final regular season game last Thursday, knocking off Flushing Vision Source by a score of 7-5 and extending its winning streak to five games. The team’s semifinal playoff game was on Tuesday night. — B.G.
