BLAKE ERWIN SMITH, 70, of Columbiaville, died Thursday, June 10, 2021. He was born November 15, 1950 in Almont, to Clair and Bertha (Hall) Smith.
Blake graduated from Capac High School in 1968. After graduation from high school Blake went on to attend college, where he was drafted into the military. He went on to proudly service his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Blake married Kathy Parrish at the First Presbyterian Church in Lapeer, on August 30, 1975. Last year, Kathy and Blake celebrated their 45th Anniversary. Mr. Smith originally worked for Oakdale Center in Lapeer (in maintanence), moving to the Caro State Hospital after Oakdale closed. Blake retired in 2004 from Bald Mountain State Park, where he was a Park Ranger. Mr. Smith truly enjoyed his job, he was an avid outdoorsman … he loved hunting, fishing and watching the birds at his home. Blake was a member of American Legion Post #16 in Lapeer.
Blake is survived by his wife, Kathy Smith of Columbiaville; son, Dale (Nicole) Smith of Metamora; granddaughter, Taylor Marie Smith of Metamora; and siblings, Betty DeSmit of Armada, Barb Quain of Kansas, Beth (Doug) Russ of Armada and Brion (Lorraine) Smith of Lapeer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Bertha Smith.
A gathering to celebrate Blake’s life will take place from 5-9 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021, at the Lapeer American Legion Post #16, 1701 W. Genesee St., Lapeer, MI 48446. Dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m., during the gathering at the American Legion. Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer.
