Hundreds of volunteers like those shown here at Davenport University turned out Monday to help make security blankets in recognition of the Martin Luther King Day of Service. The no-sew fleece blankets will be donated to Project Linus to console traumatized, ill and needy children. Davenport met its goal to make 80 blankets. Volunteers also made blankets at Baker College of Flint, Kettering University and Mott Community College. MCC set a goal to make 100 blankets. Baker also hosted other service projects such as making cat and dog toys, clipping and sorting coupons for military families, counting and rolling a mile of change to benefit the North End Soup Kitchen and Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and making stress balls to donate to senior facilities and long-term care centers.
