Building damaged by thieves
FLINT TWP. — Thieves did an estimated $60,000 in damage to a vacant building in the 3100 block of Miller Road. Police responded on June 8 at about 4:25 p.m. to a call about a breaking and entering at the bank-owned property which is listed for sale. The complainant said the theft was discovered when arriving to show the building to potential buyers. Walls were damaged and copper wiring stolen. The case remains under investigation.
Robber strong-arms cashier
FLINT TWP. — Police are looking for an alleged thief who fled with an unknown amount of money after struggling with a cashier at a business in the 3200 block of Corunna Road. The cashier was not hurt. Police who were called to the scene at about 4:45 p.m. on June 7 took a description of a white male about 5’8” tall, medium build and 25-30 years old. He was wearing a dark hat, white T-shirt, black jeans and black tennis shoes. He approached the cashier who resisted when he tried to reach into the cash drawer. Witnesses corroborated the account. There are no suspects at this time.
Thief puts up a fight in shoplifting arrest
FLINT TWP. — A known shoplifter was arrested after a struggle for attempting to steal an xBox from a store in the 3500 block of Miller Road. Police were called to the store at about 6:23 p.m. on June 5 for a suspicious person complaint. Dispatch advisory said that a known shoplifter was in the store selecting merchandise. Officers arrived to find the suspect running out the door with an xBox he had failed to purchase. Officers pursued him on foot across the parking lot and subsequently arrested a 31-year-old Flint man. Officers also learned that store loss prevention personnel who tried to stop the suspect had been involved in a struggle with him. The suspect was arrested for strong-arm robbery and retail fraud and the stolen Xbox recovered.
Pricey calculator missing
FLINT TWP. — A calculator valued at over $100 was reported missing from the Baker College bookstore. Police called to take a complaint on June 9 at about 4:10 p.m. spoke with a security officer. No one witnessed the alleged theft but a suspect was identified who denied the accusation. The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for further investigation. The calculator was not recovered. It is not known if the suspect is a student at the school.
Narcotics found in traffic stop
FLINT TWP. — Police arrested two 26-year-old Flint men for several infractions after a traffic stop on MIller Road near Austin Parkway at about midnight on June 8. An officer on patrol stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver told the office he did not have a driver’s license. A passenger in the car was arrested for possession of a recreational amount of marijuana. The driver was cited for the traffic offense and driving without a license then lodged at the county jail because of an outstanding civil warrant for nonpayment of child support. The passenger was issued an appearance ticket and the vehicle, which belonged to an unidentified third party, was impounded. — Compiled by Rhonda S. Sanders
