FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees authorized a per month fee from Genesee County to the bills of township residents who are City of Flint water customers at its Jan. 24 meeting.
The township first discussed the water rate increase for township residents who receive water from the City of Flint at its Jan. 10 meeting. At the meeting, Genesee County Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright spoke on the matter, saying that there were 46 township residents affected by the overall rate increase. These residents, according to Wright, live on “borderline roads” between Flint Township and the City of Flint.
At the time, the board approved the water rate increase but held off on approving the administrative fee from the county after Trustee Frank Kasle questioned it. The additional fee from Genesee County to these franchise customers is $1 for Ready to Serve and $.70 for commodity, based on the example of a 5/8-inch meter using 700-cubic-feet of water.
