Board approves purchase of new fire truck

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees Monday approved spending $496,521.71 for a 2020 Sutphen Monarch Pumper fire truck.

Fire Chief Tomas Stadler said the new truck will replace a 1996 KME and 1991 Pierce Pumper Fire Truck, both of which are past the recommended 20-year service life for fire apparatus. According to Stadler, the purchase is in line with the replacement schedule for fire department vehicles that was set in 2015 and is also provided for in the 2019-20 Fire Department budget with funding from the fire equipment millage.

The total cost of the vehicle is $507,517.93through the HGAC Buy Program, which secures competitive bids from major manufacturers. The township voted to choose the full prepayment option, which provides a discount of $10,996.22, making the total cost of the vehicle $496.521.71.

The vehicle is expected to be delivered in 13 to 15 months.
