DAVISON TWP. — The Board of Trustees named Lt. Jay Rendon as the new police chief for township police department at a special meeting, May 21.
Rendon, a 26-year veteran of the Davison Township Police Department, will replace retiring Police Chief Rick Freeman who will leave the department after 25 years on June 30. He has been chief since March of 2012.
The board approved an employment agreement with Rendon by a vote of 4-0. Clerk Mary Miller was absent.
Rendon, 50, said he was excited about the board’s approval of the contract and he is eager to begin his new job.
“I can’t wait to get going and bring some new ideas in,” he said.
The next month he said he expects to be splitting his time between training and road patrols as he prepares to assume his new post on July 1.
He and his wife, Michelle, have three sons and live in the Davison area.
