FLINT TWP.—In a rare occurrence on its yearly meeting calendar, the township board will hold its regular meeting on the eve of the November 7 election.
In recent years, board meetings on the Monday before any elections have been canceled – resulting in only one board meeting during that month – generally in May, August and November.
The board unanimously approved an offer from Clerk Kathy Funk to reinstate the Monday, November 6 board meeting.
“This is a one-time deal,” Funk said. “I can’t do it next year.”
It is possible this year because there is only one item – a Flushing Schools bond issue -that will not require a lot of staffing, Funk said. Normally, election workers do not begin setting up for elections until after 4 p.m. on Monday, in accordance with state law, then return bright and early Tuesday morning to open the polls by 8 a.m.
“I can’t do this next year with the gubernatorial election,” Funk said.
Meeting times for the township board and other township entities are posted on a calendar on the township website at www.flinttownship.org.
