Genesys offers diabetes prevention class
GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesys Diabetes and Nutrition Learning Center now offers a three day course entitled Preventing Diabetes. Topics covered in the class include: understanding the implications of elevated blood sugar, risk factors and learning how to reduce the risk of diabetes, lifestyle changes and choices, nutrition, snacking, eating out, benefits of physical activity, identifying cues that impact food and activity decisions, and obstacles to maintaining a lifestyle that will prevent diabetes.
The classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on May 10, May 17 and May 24, in the Genesys Diabetes and Nutrition Learning Center, located on the Genesys Regional Medical Center – Health Park campus in Grand Blanc (inside the Genesys Athletic Club complex). Cost is $35.

New support group offered
FENTON — Are you a caregiver with questions about your aging parents? Do you want to know more about Dementia or caring for yourself while caring for others? Do you suffer from the guilt of placing your loved one in a new home? Rockwell’s Education and Support Group might be right for you.
The group is free and meets monthly on the third Tuesday of the month from 6-7:30 p.m. The group is held at Rockwell Assisted Living at 202 W. Shiawassee, in Fenton. Refreshments will be served along with time to mingle and share your personal stories. A guest speaker will be scheduled each month to share information on many important topics. Members of the group have enjoyed being able to share their struggles and leave with the realization that they are not alone. — G.G.
Benefit chicken dinner
FLINT — A benefit chicken dinner will be held today (May 5) from 5-7 p.m. at the Batiste Family Masonic Temple Dining Hall, 711 S. Saginaw St. Proceeds will go to the Flint Police Motor Unit, to provide an Honor Guard Escort in Washington D.C. for the families of Police Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
There will be a Special Tribute to Flint Police Officer David Williams, our hometown hero who gave his life in the line of duty.

Sweet Adelines seeking singers
DAVISON TWP. — Song of the Lakes Sweet Adelines Chorus of Davison is seeking female singers for membership openings.
