The concert, hailed as “a truly uplifting experience,” features Norma Gentile’s classically-trained voice assisted by chanting, a choir of Tibetan singing bowls and a Schruti Box, which is a devotional instrument in India. Attendees are invited to meditate and soothe their souls with the sounds of the concert, which is a time of sacredness and devoted to deep, inner healing.

FLINT TWP. — Santa Claus is arriving at Genesee Valley Center Nov. 12 on top a Flint Township Fire Truck, and the Flint Northern High School Marching Band will be on hand to herald his arrival. Santa will then parade through the mall, led by the marching band, to his home in Center Court. Samples of hot cocoa will be provided by Coffee Beanery and Pretzel Stix will be provided by Auntie Anne’s. Hot cocoa and pretzels provided in the JCPenney court, while supplies last.
Santa will join his Woodland Friends in Center Court through Dec. 24. The Woodland Friends Santa display is based on the children’s book Stranger in the Woods by Carl R. Sams II and Jean Stoick, and is sponsored locally by Dort Federal Credit Union. Santa is available for photos 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday- Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 23. Photos are available 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Christmas Eve. Each child that visits with Santa receives a special gift.

Humane Society Holiday Open House
BURTON — The Humane Society of Genesee County, 3325 S. Dort Hwy., also announces its upcoming Holiday Open House 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 11. The open house features an afternoon of holiday-filled activities. There will be Santa Paws photos for $5, and the community is encouraged to bring in their pets and/or children. There also will be the opportunity to make a PawCasso painting for $5, along with the society’s annual Cookie Walk. Boxes are $5 each and contain a variety of homemade and store-bought cookies.
The Humane Society Of Genesee County also is selling their holiday cards again this year and individuals can now buy them online. A pack of 10 cards is $5, plus $1 shipping. Customers can choose between dog cards and cat cards. The inside of the dog cards read “Wishing You a Great Howliday Season!” The inside of the cat cards read “Wishing You A Perrfect Holiday Season!”.

Holiday activities at FIA
FLINT — The FIA Art School announces its Holiday Art Camp 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 26 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 27. During the camp, which is held in the art school studios, campers will create unique gifts for their family and friends using a variety of tools, mediums and techniques. Campers can sign up for one or both days, and each camper needs to bring lunch and a snack. Cost is $67 for members, $81 for non-members and the fee is per day.
Also, FIA presents its Holiday Wonder event 1-4 p.m. Dec. 18 in the art school studios. The event features a Nutcracker-inspired family activity where attendees can make garlands, stamp wrapping paper, create soldiers and sugar plum fairies and beaded snowflake ornaments. The event is for children ages 5-12 and is free.

Nutcracker-Holiday Pops Sneak Peek
FLINT — The Flint Institute of Music (FIM) presents the Nutcracker — Holiday Pops Sneak Peek 1-3 p.m. Nov. 20 at the FIM, 1025 E. Kearsley St.
The free, family event highlights the three upcoming FIM holiday programs, Flint Youth Theatre’s The Homecoming, Nutcracker and Holiday Pops. The Sneak Peek event features souvenir photos with little mice and soldiers in the giant chair from the Nutcracker set (a $5 charge may be applied toward the purchase of Nutcracker or Holiday Pops tickets); holiday favorites performed by the FSO Brass; carols sung by the Flint Festival Youth Chorus; dramatic readings from Flint Youth Theatre’s The Homecoming; Nutcracker character face painting; holiday favorites performed by soprano Pia Broden Williams, tenor Glen Holcomb and pianist Ina Yoon; preschool make-and-take project; creative movement sessions; musical instrument playground; free refreshments; viewing of Nutcracker dance rehearsals; a 105.5 FM remote broadcast with Stephanie K; and drawings for free tickets and other prizes.

Holiday Walk 2010
FLINT — The 27th Annual Holiday Walk 2010 returns to the Flint Cultural Center 5:30- 8:30 Dec. 7.
The tree lighting is at 5:15 p.m., and the festivities include caroling and live music; a visit with Santa Claus; free carriage rides; planetarium shows; fun, holiday theatre activities; hands-on arts and crafts; a live petting zoo; refreshment; and more.

FLINT — McLaren’s Nutrition Counseling Program is now offering “Heart Health- Controlling Your Cholesterol and Blood Pressure.” Have you been told that your cholesterol or blood pressure is high? Do you have a family history of heart disease? Do you want to learn how to prevent heart disease and be healthier? If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of these questions this class can help. Meal planning tips and recipes will be provided.
