Community invited to Thanksgiving dinner

FLINT — International Academy of Flint, 2820 S. Saginaw St., hosts its annual Thanksgiving Dinner 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. The dinner is free, along with free clothing and a care package of personal hygiene items and food to those attending.

Art Wenzlaff, director of School & Community Relations for the Academy, indicates that the target audience are those families or individuals who may not be able to enjoy a complete Thanksgiving meal, in a warm, safe, and friendly environment. The event includes homeless, some of our school families, neighborhood residents and literally anyone who wants to attend from throughout the area. +

This year Carriage Town Ministries and the East Side Mission are partnering with the academy, along with Alternative Veterans Solutions, to better ensure veterans without a place to be on Thanksgiving may be able to enjoy the day. MTA Your Ride assists in this venture, as they provide free transportation to publicized predetermined locations within the city. As well, church vans are donated to allow those who may not be able to reach the designated pick-up sites to also be included in the event.

Last year, 462 meals were served, and it is estimated this year as many as 600 may be included. Wenzlaff indicates donations are welcome, particularly personal hygiene items, warm winter clothing, and blankets. The majority of attendees are adults, but families are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend. Frequently, the children attending are in need. Details: Call Art
