FLINT TWP. — The Genesee County Road Commission has started a project to remove and replace the existing bridge on Bristol Road, between Torrey Road and I-75.
Work began Aug. 23 with an expected completion date of Nov. 30, according to GCRC officials.
The plan is to remove the existing bridge and replace box culvert, construct a storm sewer system, rehabilitate Bristol Road concrete pavement, mill and resurface the Torrey Road intersection, rebuild portions of the southbound I-75 entrance and exit ramps and place guardrail, signage and pavement markings.
GCRC officials said the cost of the project is $1,794,554.
Work that began Aug. 23 involves a traffic shift on Bristol Road to one lane eastbound and two lanes westbound. Starting Sept. 1, there will be a traffic shift on Bristol Road to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound. Also, the southbound I-75 exit ramp to westbound Bristol Road will be closed.
This phase of the project will include the removal of the north side of the bridge and replacement with a box culvert. The GCRC will rehabilitate as much of Bristol Road as possible.
Stage 3 starts Oct. 10, with a traffic shift on Bristol Road to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound. The eastbound Bristol Road entrance ramp to southbound I-75 will be closed for removal of the south side of the bridge and replacement with a box culvert.
Stage 4 of the project starts Nov. 11, with a traffic shift on Bristol Road to one lane of traffic maintained each direction. The westbound Bristol to southbound I-75 entrance ramp and southbound I-75 to eastbound Bristol Exit Ramp will also be closed for remaining ramp and Bristol Road pavement repairs and Torrey Road intersection paving.
